I saw snow on thickly mossed branches the other day in the Cascades...I've been doing little speedpaintings ever since, trying to capture the memory. It was kinda like this!

What part of the Cascades? This was based on snow-covered moss sightings about 50 miles southeast of Portland... I think that counts as Cascades!

It was the Santiam Pass, on the coastal side lower elevations, before it got alpine. I think that's farther south than 50 miles, but roughly the same area. Are there photos of it somewhere? I'd love to see them!

Doh! I miss the Pacific Northwest (Olympic Peninsula), as much as I enjoy being in Colorado now. oCe, this pic reminds me of ancient, undisturbed spirits. I imagine it's the sort of thing that makes Miyazaki (of Totoro, Spirited Away) very, very happy. Geez, even your speed-stuffs are gorgeous!

Not to sound daft... But what's "the Cascades"?

The Cascades are the mountains that run just inland of the Pacific coast in North America. Something like Mt. Baker in Washington down to Mt. Shasta in northern California? (I'm not exactly sure how long the mountain range is). West of the mountains, things are wet, mossy, forested. East of them, Washington and Oregon are surprisingly dry.
